Dr. Pike is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center Dallas, Parkland Memorial Hospital. He has practiced gastroenterology in Virginia Beach, Virginia since 1983. Dr. Pike has served on the executive committee of the Virginia Beach Medical Society as well as serving the society in a term as president. Dr. Pike has chaired committees, special interest groups and task-forces for the American College of Gastroenterology (“ACG”) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (“ASGE”) (both Section 501(c)(3) organizations). He currently is a Trustee of the ACG. Dr. Pike also has twelve years of experience as a physician executive with Sentara Health Care in southeastern Virginia. He served as a medical director for care management and later as a Vice President for Medical Affairs with responsibility for patient safety, care management, and care delivery including clinical quality improvement.
Dr. Deas is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine (1981) and Gastroenterology (1989). He is a native of Homer, Louisiana, and began his medical practice in Fort Worth after serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and retiring as a Colonel in 1991. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Baylor University, graduating cum laude in 1970 followed by a Master of Science in Chemistry from Baylor in 1971. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Deas received his undergraduate medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport graduating with honors in 1978. Dr. Deas’ postgraduate medical training at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio included an internal medicine residency between 1978 and 1981 and gastroenterology fellowship between 1986 1988. Since arriving in Fort Worth Dr. Deas has also completed a Master in Medical Management degree from University Texas Dallas School of Business.
Dr. Deas is a Fellow of the ACG and ASGE. He served as the Chairman of the ASGE Practice Management Committee and as a member of the ASGE Executive Board. He is currently ASGE Treasurer and will serve as President in 2012. Dr. Deas serves as the Medical Director of the Fort Worth Endoscopy Center and the Southwest Fort Worth Endoscopy Center. He has served as President of Texas GI and North Texas Specialty Physicians, two Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex independent physician associations (“IPAs”) and has held other leadership positions in Fort Worth hospitals. He is currently President of Care 'N Care a new Medicare PPO and subsidiary of North Texas Specialty Physicians which will provide coverage for Medicare members beginning January 2009.
Dr. Johnson attained his medical degree in 1980 from the Medical College of Virginia. He then completed his residency and fellowship training in the US Navy and was a staff gastroenterologist at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD until 1989 when he assumed his current position as a gastroenterologist in Norfolk, VA. He has provided long-standing service to non-profit organizations. He has been active in committees for the ACG and ASGE and is the Past President of the ACG. He has served the state societies and has 20 years of service with the Va. GI Society. Local involvement in his community has included - Board of Trustees of Norfolk Forum, Board of Trustees and past president of Norfolk Assembly and executive board for the University of Virginia Parent's Committee.
Dr. Eisen is a Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He is director of endoscopy as well as the co-director of CORI (Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative), a national endoscopy database project sponsored by the National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney diseases (“NIDDK”). Dr. Eisen has served on the governing board of the ASGE, chaired the standards of practice committee, served on the informatics, public relations committees and the quality task force. Dr. Eisen is the current chair of the imaging and advanced technology section for the American Gastroenterological Association (“AGA”) and has served on the research committee of the ACG.
Dr. Safdi attended Johns Hopkins University for undergraduate studies and then the University of Cincinnati for medical school from 1971 - 1975. He did his internship and medical residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Diego. His Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellowship was at University of California, San Diego and the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. Since 1980, Dr. Safdi has been in private practice with a single specialty gastroenterology group that has grown to 18 physicians. Dr. Safdi has volunteered for many nonprofit organizations. In gastroenterology, this has included service as an ACG governor (4 terms), ACG regional councilor for more than 2 years, and Board of Trustees member for 6 years. He has also served on the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (“AAAHC”) Board of Trustees for the last 3 years, as gastrointestinal (“GI”) representative to the American College of Physicians (“ACP”) for the socioeconomic group for 5 years, as Ohio CAC advisor for 5 years, and as co-chair of the national GI CAC group for 3 years.
